How We Work

MilestonesNYC helps uninsured, underinsured and low-income New Yorkers receive free counseling and coaching from licensed mental health professionals.  We focus on LGBT individuals but do not turn away non-LGBT individuals in need.  MilestonesNYC refers care recipients to providers who can help with the following:

• Individual or Group Therapy
• Career / Life Coaching
• Psychiatric Care including medication and monitoring

We have established a network of Providers, including licensed and insured clinical social workers, psychologists, professional counselors, psychiatrists and psychotherapists, who are willing to devote a small portion of their time. Providers in our network offer their services on a volunteer basis at no cost to Care Recipients. Providers see Care Recipients in the privacy and convenience of their own offices.

When we are contacted by a person seeking care, our Program Coordinator will request certain basic information to be used for internal purposes only. If the eligibility requirements are met, the Program Coordinator will attempt to match the person seeking care (the Care Recipient) with one of the Providers in our network. If a match is found, the Provider and Care Recipient will arrange for a mutually convenient time to meet.

Please note that our services are not for individuals who are in crisis or have severe or chronic mental health issues that may require hospitalization or specialized treatment. IF YOU ARE EXPERIENCING ANY OF THESE ISSUES, PLEASE CALL 911, CONSULT WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN, OR VISIT THE NEAREST EMERGENCY ROOM. You may also visit our Useful Links page for other resources.
